Spice up Christmas dinner , some festive cocktails

19.12.12

Six more sleeps and its Christmas... I hope you all have exciting plans, here are some christmas fun ideas to enjoy the festive season.

Crafting the perfect holiday for the whole family at Christmas can be hectic. With this in mind, it’s understandable that some people might believe that they have no time to do anything other than stockpile bottles of wine for their Christmas meal. However, there are plenty of easy-to-make festive drinks recipes out there that won’t cut massively into your planning time.

Rum punch
A gingerbread rum punch is the perfect winter warmer to serve guests when they first step indoors from the harsh cold. To make one drink, take 2 fine slices of root ginger and ‘muddle’ them into the base of a cocktail shaker. Then mix in 2 measures of gingerbread rum (or perhaps spiced dark rum if you can’t get hold of gingerbread) and 1 teaspoon of clear honey. Add 2 dashes of fresh lime juice and 1 dash of sugar syrup; shake with ice and then top up with ginger ale and a lime wedge.

Snow Queen
If you’re after something slightly more refreshing, then why not go for a Snow Queen? Pour 1 measure of Snow Grouse Whisky and 2 teaspoons of elderflower cordial over a lime wedge, and then fill with ice cubes. Add sparkling lemonade to suit your taste. For a special celebration drink, add around 15ml of black raspberry liqueur to a champagne flute and then top with your favourite champagne. Pop a raspberry on top and, with such little demand on your time, the Snow Queen could be a big hit!

Coffee
If it’s simply too cold outside to play Santa at the local shopping centre, why not shop for your gifts online – that way you can browse from the comfort of your sofa, with a mug of coffee in hand! January sales offer some great bargains. For a wintry take on the popular drink, add a measure of amaretto liqueur to your favourite blend and stir in some chocolate powder: instant tiramisu in a mug. Alternatively, add a dash of mint liqueur to a fresh cup in order to make it more of a Christmas treat. Or, try adding a hint of peppermint flavouring to a mug of hot chocolate to create a decadent treat that even the kids can enjoy.

Enjoy
